Micromechanics
Today, modern material design provides the possibility to develop and provide tailored microstructures for defined and concrete questions, which guarantee a required spectrum of properties for the application.
The group Damage Tolerance develops concepts to translate property profiles from component safety requirements into tailored structural morphologies using computer simulations. The models used are able to take different types of loads into account. The multi-scale material behaviour for quasistatic, cyclic and dynamic loads is represented.
The scientific goal is to create a methodical approach that quantifies the effects of the microstructure on the multi-scale properties and provides a toolkit for future microstructure design in order to achieve the desired improvement in the performance of component components.
