As part of this year's DGM Day on September 26, 2017 in Dresden, Prof. Wolfgang Bleck, Director of the IEHK, received the "Honorary Membership of the German Materials Society“ and Christian Haase, group leader at the IEHK, has been awarded the DGM Young Researcher Award.

The honorary membership is awarded to DGM members who have rendered outstanding services in material or non-material terms to society. Prof. Bleck was honored as the central source of ideas and supporter of the entire field of materials technology. In addition, the laudation for Prof. Bleck emphasized his achievement in developing IEHK to a modern and leading institute of materials technology in the field of steel research with an outstanding and unique reputation worldwide.

Furthermore, Dr. Haase has been awarded the DGM Young Researcher Award for his previous work in the field of deformation and annealing behavior of high-manganese steels. His contribution to a profound understanding of the underlying deformation and recrystallization mechanisms in these steels is appreciated. The Young Researcher Award is awarded by the DGM to young scientists, who, based on their previous results, are expected to show excellent scientific development in the future.
